Can It Be?

Random Circles Afghan

Random Circles Afghan

I started this crocheted blanket 5 years ago. I was among the many who had begun to believe that it would never be finished. I had this grand idea for my oldest step-daughter. She wanted her room done in hot pink with black trim. She wanted to do it up right and have random black circles throughout the room, but alas her mother would not allow her to paint her walls this way. So in my infinite wisdom, I said “while I understand the reservations about painting a room with these colors, there’s no reason she can’t still have them in the decor.” So I  set about putting together an afghan. It took some research to find a pattern for the squares that I wanted, because I wanted there to be circles inside them so I could randomize the black. Again, it was a grand idea, and in the future I’ll remember that grand ideas tend to get me into trouble. I ended up frustrated part way through and put it away. Several months later, I got it back out, but I had no idea where I was going with this project, so it got put away again, and again, and again. So here we are, 5 years later, and I have finally finished!

I can’t find the pattern for the squares on the internet anymore. When I got back to working on it, I had to work out the pattern from the pieces that I had already created. The triangles, that complete the edges, I had to figure out through trial and error. Perhaps another reason I had such trouble getting it finished.

So for all of you out there with unfinished project hanging over your head, IT CAN BE DONE. It may take a few years, but it can be done.

…Now for that two-year old shawl that’s still hovering around somewhere…

I hope everyone has a safe, and Happy New Year!! 🙂
