I’m not sure if I am abusing my blog privileges or if I’m merely neglectful.
It’s funny that I started a blog in order to help me manage those intermittent and overwhelming urges to write, but then rarely even make an appearance here. There’s the Fridays with Frost posts: I do enjoy doing that (when I can remember that its Friday), but hardly original. I’m not entirely sure when I got so completely distracted or whatever it is.
I suppose that the least I can do at this point is
show off share the projects that I completed during the holidays.
The cabled wristlets and headbands that I made for my youngest step-daughter.
The hat and mittens that I made for my grandson.
Pattern links are as follows (these are all on Ravelry and may require login):
The mittens were a basic knit mitten and embellished by me, based on what I learned from the hat pattern.
So that’s one of the many things that I’ve been up to lately, more sharing to come later.
Here’s to hoping that all my knitting/crocheting friends have been fortunate enough to finish all of their project, and that all the writer’s among you have found the appropriate inspiration to carry you through the holidays.
…and so NaNoWriMo 2012 has reached its conclusion and I still have the same 735 words with which I started. Ah, well…until next year then. Or maybe summer camp again. That has been the most successful for me. In any case, it’s never really over because there is always the next time. Now on to other things. Like those other two novels that I need to work on, or Christmas knitting.
Since I’ve finally made progress on the afghan that’s been sitting around for years, plus I’ve finished all the knitted/crocheted scarves for my classroom, maybe I can get to making something for my own children. I haven’t picked out any patterns yet, but I was thinking some headbands would be nice for the girls. Also I found some fun soaps for the geek in your life (both of my boys fall into this category; we can talk about why another time). Digital Soaps is a fun little Etsy Shop that makes soaps for gamers. I can knit up some wash cloths to go with them and voila, great gifts!
Time flies when you’re having fun. Sometimes even when you are not. I did two critiques for Critters this week. I’ve discovered that I am shamefully behind. One per week, that is all that is required. When I joined the group I could not fathom that it would be too much, and to be honest even now I have to say that it’s really not unreasonable. Yet, I have fallen waaayyy behind. I’m barely doing one a month. You know how it happens. First – It’s just one week, I’ll catch up. No big deal. Then – I’m just too busy, maybe I’ll do extra next week. But next week comes again and again and still nothing. Until eventually – Well, now it’s not even worth it, I’m so far behind it’s overwhelming…I’ll never catch up so I might as well not try.
Except that I am going to try. I’ve set myself a goal of two per week. I’ve decided it’s the best way. I mean, I could take a week off work and just get them all done at once, but really, will I? Not likely. I’ll have a million more excuses not to do them all at once. There’s the afghan that needs finishing, or the sweater, plus I need to start the Christmas gift knitting, and don’t forget that I need to do and outline for NaNoWriMo. November is coming up soon.
🙂 Hahaha…I have a never-ending inventory of excuses. So two for now, and two next week. I can handle it. At least until November. Then…we’ll see. Now I’m off to work on that afghan, and maybe I’ll mull over some ideas for that NaNo outline while I’m crocheting.
Well, I had no internet this last weekend, so I missed my Fridays with Frost spot this week. It will be back this Friday for sure. I also missed my free download from Barnes & Noble, I’m pretty sad about that too.
Meanwhile, my winning CampNaNo story is now up to 59,800 words. It should be finished soon. Well, you know the first draft. Then I can, hopefully, get back to my other novel. I’d like to finish it before the end of October so that I can get a jump-start on outlining a new story for November’s NaNo. I’ve an idea on the back burner for several years now and I’d really like to get to it this year.
I guess we’ll see how far I get, I still have a fair amount of knitting that I need to get to as well.
Here’s to the fact that sometimes endings just aren’t happy!
Have a good week 🙂

A Late Walk
When I go up through the mowing field,
The headless aftermath,
Smooth-laid like thatch with the heavy dew,
Half closes the garden path.
And when I come to the garden ground,
The whir of sober birds
Up from the tangle of withered weeds
Is sadder than any words
A tree beside the wall stands bare,
But a leaf that lingered brown,
Disturbed, I doubt not, by my thought,
Comes softly rattling down.
I end not far from my going forth
By picking the faded blue
Of the last remaining aster flower
To carry again to you.
Gotta love some Frost.
Meanwhile, my CampNaNo novel has reached a whopping 902 words. Okay, yeah, I’m a little behind. Also I’m still working on wrestling that WIP for the Ravellenic Games.
This weekend will be a challenge though, with all of this, plus a 4 hour class at a state park (2 hours away) on Saturday and my son’s 18th birthday party on Sunday.

I finished my first project for the Ravellenic Games on Sunday. My title was ‘Dragons in the Tropics’ due to the lovely tropical colors of the yarn and the dragon scale pattern that I used. The free pattern can be found at Irish Lace.
I’ve now moved on to the ‘Random Circles Afghan’ that I’m working on for the WIPs wrestling. Wish me luck, this project has been sitting around for far to long. I worked on it for a while last night, but haven’t had time tonight. Hopefully I’ll be back to it tomorrow.
Just two more hours to Camp NaNo, at least for me.
(Okay, I am really sad that I can’t get the picture to insert now. Guess I’ll try again later.) 😦
ETA: Yay, it finally worked!!
