"The" Knit Tie, finally uploaded.

 As promised, a picture of the knit tie. Another co-worker saw it and wanted one as well, but for now I’m back to working on the blanket. The hot pink one that I mentioned before. BTW – March is national crochet month and for all you Ravelry members there is a party going on.

Knit Tie

A co-worker had mentioned that he really wanted a knit tie, and I told him that it would be pretty easy to make one. We didn’t really get into the details at the time though. One, because we were working and there was a “situation,” and two, because I often make comments like that and then promptly forget. It can be important for people to follow up with me on things, as I won’t often take the initiative to do so myself. Right, wrong or indifferent, it is who I am. My co-worker doesn’t mention this again for a while, and when he does it’s because the poor guy bought one online only to get it and realize that it was way too small to wear. He was very sad about it. So, I offered to make the tie, and this time followed up a day or two later to get his height and color preference. Then I bought the yarn. I didn’t start right away due to working on the aforementioned afghan, but eventually the circumstances dictated that I get started (I left my other supplies in the hubby’s car and he wasn’t going to be home for the day).

I decided to wing it on the pattern because none of the free patterns that I came across were quite right. There was a really nice looking knit tie pattern that was perfect, but it was $5, and I’m cheap. After much trial and error on the start, I have finally completed the tie. I will post pics soon, but sadly I have to load them from another computer. (That’s a long story that no one wants to hear.)

Meanwhile, the pattern is a simple garter stitch. I’m not much of a pattern writer, and don’t keep good notes but I’m willing to share for anyone who wants to give it a try.

Finished Tie measures 59″ 

Supplies

• Yarn – Worsted Weight
• Knitting Needles – 14″, size 2
• Yarn needle or Crochet Hood for finishing

Using a long-tail cast on, cast on 2 stitches. 

• Row 1 and all odd rows, knit across
• Row 2 and all even rows, increase 2 stitches evenly across work until 14 stitches
• Row 13, knit across
• Row 14, increase 3 stitches evenly across work
• Row 15, knit across
• Row 16, decrease 2 stitches
• Knit 4 rows, then decrease two more stitches
• Knit 6 rows, then decrease two stitches (Repeat this row until 11 stitches remain)
• Knit until work measures 25″
• Decrease 2 stitches
• Knit 4 rows and decrease 2 more stitches (Repeat once leaving 7 stitches)
• Knit to 58″
• Decrease 2 stitches every other row until 3 stitches remain
• On last row, slip the first stitch, knit two together, then pass the slipped stitch over leaving one stitch
• Tie off, and sew in ends

It may look more complicated than it is, but I assure you that its super simple. As proof, note that I did not even use any knitting abbreviations in the pattern, and the increases and decreases can be done any way that you prefer.
